Description: Black colored volcanic glass with white crystalline inclusions

How are they formed? Forms when magma rapidly cools during an eruptions which in turn makes volcanic glass. Snowflake Obsidian gets its black color from the presence of iron during formation. The white “flakes” are areas in the obsidian that cooled slower than the areas around them, thus giving them a chance to crystallize.
