How are they formed? Forms in low temperatures (less than 950°F) by the addition to water and silica to magnesium silicates. It occurs along the folds of tectonic plates, island arcs and mountain chains. Serpentine gets its green color from olivine, peridotite and pyroxene that is present at the time of formation.
