How are they formed? Forms when copper-rich water flows over a copper-poor rock which transforms the rock into copper-rich ore. The ore is composed of the sulfide minerals bornite (blue-black) and covellite (purple and blue). Acid is then put on this ore which tarnishes the rock and brings out the spectacular blues, pinks, purples and yellows.
